Buff and Complementary Colors
Olive is yellow / green.  A mix of yellow and green will produce a "celery" color, which when gray or black is added will produce - olive. Olive is made by mixing green with yellow  into a white base, then deepened as needed with a bit of black or gray.  Colorants that can be used to make Olive:  Yellow Oxide, Phthalo Green with Lamp Black or Raw Umber into a tinting white base.
Tones, Shades and Tints of Olive are made by adding white (or using less tint in a white base), or by strengthening the color by adding more tint. Adding gray (Raw Umber or similar tint) will also give you a deeper shade of Olive.  See Analogous Colors
The straight complement of Olive is red/purple.   The split complements are red, orange/red, purple and blue/purple colors.  See Choosing a Complementary Paint Colors

Olive is a sophisticated muted green which is a common addition to many historic color charts. Good for exteriors or interior walls.  On the interior, olive walls can be combined with a celery or "hint-of-green" ceiling color, or combined with an antique (yellow) white, or just plain white.  The Walnut stained trim works well with olive (see Walnut stain and color palettes), as does painted trim in Antique or plain white.
Located on the color wheel between yellow and green. This tint blend is then added into a white base and deepened with Raw Umber or Lamp Black to achieve the Olive hue desired.
