Member of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America
A good painting contractor is going to be an honest paint contactor. This honesty includes obeying the law where it applies to proving competence to the state and obtaining the required license.
To protect consumers, the State of Michigan requires painting and decorating contractors to prove they have the competence to work on residential homeowner's property in order to obtain a license to operate a residential painting business.
Many painters lacking in trade skill, choose to work "underground" and avoid this issue altogether - hoping the homeowner doesn't bring up the subject. It is smart to hire a proven competent painter, it will save you a lot of unnecessary aggravation and problems.
“The man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed.”
-Henry Ford
Govenment
Requirement
-it's the Law-
Painting Contractors who work on homes built before 1978 are required to be EPA Certified Renovators.
Paint-N-Stain Inc is a EPA Certified Renovator.
EPA certified Renovators are trained in and required to use lead-safe work practices.
Certification (like state licensing) is a requirement - not an option for the contractor.
