Copper Patina sometimes called "Verdigris" (Verde meaning green),  is basically a sponge painted finish - using the right colors and paint.

This is a positive application type of faux finish and therefore your are not forced to rush in keeping a wet edge.  I do this finish in all latex paint.

I have painted a domed ceiling with this technique, and was able to stop and start at my leisure.
Base Coat

A deep bronze tone (almost brown) works well with this technique.  I use a latex satin or eggshell sheen paint.

The Colors

Two different tones of turquoise and a gold / bronze tone metallic paint.  Use latex satin or eggshell paints for turquoise, and a waterbased metallic paint for the gold / bronze.

Use a rag and or a softening brush here and there to help break up and disguise the "sponging" look.  Just pat the surface lightly with a soft rag to soften up the sponging.  Once you have the look you like, let it dry overnight.

Clear Coating
The clear coat is optional, but it adds a nice finished look to it.  Use a semi gloss waterbased clear coat, one coat will usually do the job.
Copper Patina Faux Finish
The Technique
This is basically a sponged on finish.  See Sponge Painting for additional background to sponging.  You don't need to use glaze with this finish. The colors with mesh and blend without it.

Sponge on the colors using mostly the two turquois colors with the gold added to highlight and give it a metalic look.  The metalic paint makes this finish with it's reflective shimmer.  If you get too much of the turquois on, you can "open" it back up by sponging the base coat dark bronze back over the top.
this needs to be a waterbased metallic paint
