Starburst
When painting kid's rooms I get a lot of unique requests.  One such request was a creative idea to turn a couple of walls into a starburst.  There was a bedspread , curtains and pillows already purchased and all I needed to to was to match up colors and patterns to the existing bedroom fabrics and accessories.

We decided to do a starburst explosion in the corner of two walls which would be shooting out star fragments into the outer perimeters of the walls.  The other two walls were painted solid pink. This was a young girls bedroom.

I painted the whole room in a pink to match the pillows and curtains, and used that as a background for the starburst.  The actual "burst" was done using a white latex glaze and was dry brushed in streaks emitting away from the bright white "epicenter" in the corner.

To simulate star fragments shooting out from the burst I stenciled "stars" of different sizes and used different shades of pink (matched up  from the bedroom accessories).  The stencils were painted on with straight latex paint.  I tried to give the stencils a cartoon like appearance in shape and in a trailing pattern away from the burst.

The ceiling was painted a solid  shade of pink - lighter than the walls.

The whole room was done in latex paint and or glaze and because of the quick drying times of the latex, layering the stars on top of the streaks on top of the solid base coat - all went very quickly and without the odor of alkyd glaze/paint.
