Stain Matching

Start With: Minwax Colonial Maple wood stain.

Add if needed:  For more orange add a mix of raw sienna and burnt sienna. For more brown add Dark Walnut or burnt umber.   If you need to darken add Dark Walnut or Provencail, burnt umber, raw sienna and raw umber.

You can make a maple stain from scratch starting with a clear stain base then adding raw sienna and a little bit of burnt umber and a little bit of burnt sienna universal colorants.

Re-staining - see Re-Staining Previously Stained Wood  (with Old Master's Wiping Stain)
You can restain to maple from a light oak or natural color by using just the Old Master's Maple stain.  You can re-stain to a different color altogether if you wish.  You can stain darker and vary the tone with wiping stain.  You can't go lighter by using a wiping stain over the top.  You can tone  with cedar or cherry or a number of Old Master's wiping stains.  . You can darken the stain by using dark walnut over the top.

Woodgraining

The basecoat for matching walnut woodgraining will use a gold buff base coat. The graining glaze will be a carmel brown.  You can use mix of Old Master's Cedar, Golden Oak, Provincial, and Special Walnut Wiping Stain to make your glaze.  See Color Matching for Woodgraining
