.The  name given to the internally fed paint roller is a power roller, pressure roller or pressure fed roller.

A more productive tool
The power roller is more productive than a standard roller in most situations where you are rolling a large enough quantity of paint to offset the extra clean up time involved with the power roller. The time savings is a result of not having to retract the paint roller back to the bucket to reload
Power Rollers & Pressure Rollers
The pressure roller is normally not as productive as the airless sprayer unless you have a situation where covering up for overspray would take an undue amount of time.  The pressure roller is often used  in lieu of the airless sprayer in situations where an airless would not work well - such as when painting near a parking lot.

There are two types of pressure rollers.  There is the pressure roller attachment, which is an accessory for an airless sprayer, and there is the complete self  contained pressure roller unit.

The pressure roller attachment
The pressure roller attachment is a professional painter's tool, made for use with the airless sprayerWagner makes a telescoping pressure roller attachment.  I have the Graco pressure roller attachment.  Graco's pressure roller comes as a telescoping pole with a twist type collar lock.  The poles come in 3 lengths  1.5' - 3',  3' - 6' and 6' -  12'.  The roller cover is a special perforated cover which allows paint to be fed internally through the pole, roller and cover onto the surface.  The roller attaches to the airless via the airless spray gun  which is used as a handle and pump trigger.  The adapter nut which connects the pressure roller to the spray gun can be obtained in various sizes to accommodate different brand spray guns and sprayers.

To use the pressure roller attachment with an airless sprayer, you need to dial down the pressure to the lowest setting possible - typically you want to pressure roll at around 100 psi or so.  Roll the paint on as you would with a standard roller, controlling the paint flow to the roller with the airless spray gun trigger.

Clean up:  Remove the roller cover and wash out as you would any standard roller cover.  Clean up the pole and roller as you would a gun extension by running water (if you used latex paint) through the whole assembly via the airless sprayer.  After the water runs clean, then chase the water out with air .  I then disconnect the pressure roller  and let it air dry.  You then would run mineral spirits or whatever anticorrosion fluid into the sprayer that you normally would for storage.

The self contained pressure roller unit
The self contained pressure roller uses it own low pressure pump rather than attaching to an airless sprayer.  This type of unit is very lightweight and portable, and uses a more flexible lower pressure hose and has it's own trigger / handle which is used in lieu of an airless spray gun.  I have the Graco PT 2000 Pressure Roller which uses a diaphragm pump, which according to Graco puts out 250 psi and .25 gpm.  The PT 2000 uses the same pressure roller as the airless attachment , so the roller poles, frame and covers are interchangeable between the two machines.  I consider the PT 2000 to be suitable for both the professional and the DIY'er.

Retail home owner units.
Wagner manufactures a pressure roller unit for the DIY'er called the Model 980 Pressure Roller.  The unit comes with a 16' hose and rolls out the paint at 6oz - 16oz per minute.
