All surfaces to be painted must be
Clean - Dull - Dry
If your house was built before 1978 you need to be aware of:
Lead Paint
Any home built prior to 1978 may contain lead paint. Lead paint was banned in 1978 for use in consumer paints and for residential house paint
Use caution to be certain that you do not release lead from surfaces painted prior to 1978. Lead may be released into the air and house environment by sanding , cutting or otherwise disturbing the painted surface -even if the most recent coats of paint on the walls are lead free, down underneath these coats there may be lead paint which can be disturbed with certain pre-paint practices. See the EPA links below for more information about lead paint and how lead poisoning occurs and the health dangers that may result from breathing or otherwise ingesting lead dust caused from "renovations" or the disturbing of lead painted surfaces.
